What does your energy bill consist of

Below is a description of each element of your energy bill.

  • 44% covers the price of the energy used (for your energy supplier)


    This is the price that the energy supplier charges. This price can, of course, vary depending on the energy supplier and depending on the formula that you choose.Your energy supplier is the one with whom you have concluded a contract, and from whom you receive your energy bill.
  • 5% covers the transmission costs (Elia)


    This includes the cost of transmitting the electricity from the place where it is generated, the power station, to the local distribution networks.This is the responsibility of Elia, the transmission network operator for electricity.
  • 29% covers the distribution cost (Sibelga)


    The distribution cost is the price that is charged for the use of the infrastructure from the Elia transmission network to your electricity meter.If you would like to find out how much the distribution cost for your consumption amounts to, then use our rates simulator.
  • 22% covers the federal taxes and levies (government)


    This cost includes the VAT (21%) and the other federal levies to finance:
    • the working of the CREG
    • the decommissioning of the nuclear power stations in Mol-Dessel
    • the Kyoto contributiona contribution to energy
    • a contribution for the public service obligations
    • the specific social rate
