Sibelga's employees are committed in several different areas, contributing to a more sustainable and united society. From recycling and handing out meals to cleaning up along the canal and lending their support to associations, our volunteers don't skimp on their efforts.
River Cleanup Challenge
Every little helps in the shift towards a more environmentally friendly society. This is why, several times a year, Sibelga's employees take part in a clean-up operation along the canal next to our offices.
The River Cleanup Challenge is a fun way to raise awareness about the impact of waste in our environment, and the power of individual action. More and more companies are taking part in this movement, which is also spreading to other countries.
Every time, the quantity of litter collected within an hour never fails to impress us. So many people get involved in this initiative each year, bringing genuine enthusiasm and good vibes.
Our CEO Inne Mertens also took part in the River Cleanup Challenge.
Opération thermos
For one evening, our volunteers offered some warmth to some of the most deprived people in our society by taking part in operation thermos. As part of this community-based initiative in partnership with the STIB, Sibelga employees prepared and handed out meals to the homeless in the Botanique metro station.

In 2025, the team prepared and handed out almost 200 meals, as well as 30 litres of soup, 10 litres of coffee and 6 litres of hot chocolate.
Green Gear Alliance
Our technicians get through a huge number of work shoes every year. By taking part in the Green Gear Alliance, Sibelga helps to recycle or restore these shoes so they can be reused. Since 2023, Sibelga has already collected 1,500 pairs of work shoes and intends to take them apart completely, and then recycle them.

Forests in place of computers
We also regularly organise collections of IT equipment that is no longer usable, donating it to the Out of Use organisation. The equipment collected is then reused or recycled, and the money raised contributes to reforestation efforts.
Each computer or server collected enables an extra 2 m² of forest to be planted. What a great way to reduce our carbon footprint while contributing to the energy transition.
One-off support for associations
From time to time, Sibelga's employees volunteer to lend a hand to Brussels-based associations, give blood at Red Cross blood drives or raise funds for a good cause, during the Brussels 20 km, for example.
