There is a different procedure depending on whether you live in a house or an apartment block. Find out below the steps to follow, depending on your situation.

You can request that your night-only meter be removed at any time. Your conventional meter will then also be replaced by a smart meter.

Would you like to have work carried out on your standard meter or have your meter replaced by a smart meter? If you also have a night-only meter, it must be removed.

What do you have to do?

In a single-family home

The steps to follow:

  1. Have your installation adapted by an electrician and update the diagrams and plans. In some cases, you will also need a new certificate of compliance.
  2. Contact ou customer service department once the changes have been made to have your night-only meter removed and a smart meter installed.
  3. Claim the grand of maximum €475 once the night-only meter has been removed, for the costs of the electrician and the inspection. Carefully store your invoices.

In an apartment block

In an apartment block, night-only meters can only be removed collectively. That means that if one of the night-only meters in the building has to be removed, all the night-only meters in the building also have to be removed, and the conventional meters replaced with smart meters.

This is the case in particular if you or another co-owner want to:

  • Remove a night-only meter.
  • Carry out work on a meter, such as increasing its capacity, and the building has one or more night-only meters.
  • Have your meter replaced by a smart meter, for example to install solar panels, and the building has one or more night-only meters.

As the meters need to be removed collectively, in such cases you will need to contact your building manager or your co-ownership association (ACP in French) to coordinate the work with the other owners.

The steps to follow:

  1. Contact your building manager or your ACP to coordinate the work. For buildings with more than 10 night-only meters, the building manager can contact on a Sibelga account manager to help with the necessary steps.
  2. Have your electrical installations adapted by an electrician. The electrician also needs to update the diagrams and plans for each installation. In some cases, new certificates of conformity will be required.
  3. Contact our customer service department to have the night-only meters removed and a smart meter installed.
  4. Claim the grant of maximum €475 per meter once the night-only meters have been removed. Make sure that the electrician specifies on their invoices which meter(s) they have adapted.

How much does it cost?

Adaptations by your electrician

Before Sibelga can remove your night-only meter, you will need to make several technical adaptations. You need to pay for this work yourself, but there is a bonus of up to €475 per meter. The changes to be made depend on whether or not your night-only meter is still in use.

Removal of meter by Sibelga

There is no charge for removing the night-only meter and replacing it with a smart meter. However, if additional work is necessary in order to replace the meter, or if you request other services, these will be charged for.
