Mobility Week: Sustainability at the forefront

It's that time again! This month, the Mobility Week is taking place in Brussels. As a public service and utility company in the energy sector, we seize this opportunity with both hands to demonstrate the importance of sustainable mobility.

Also in this edition, which runs from Sunday, September 17 to Sunday, September 24, 2023, various mobility actions are on the agenda again. But it must be said: at Sibelga, we look far beyond this seven-day event. For us, sustainability is indeed framed within a long-term vision where everyone commits fully.

With a series of green initiatives, we have not only contributed to a more environmentally friendly future but also ensured more safety and wellbeing for our employees. And we are quite proud of that!

Curious about how we achieved this? Take a look for yourself.

A Greener vehicle fleet

Sustainability starts with a responsible choice of transportation. Over 30% of our company cars are already 100% electric, and about 25% are hybrid. For our vans, about 50% have a low-carbon emission (CNG/electric). We expect 40 new 100% electric vans soon. This way, we aim to significantly reduce our carbon footprint.

80 Charging points at our company parking lot

To promote the use of electric vehicles among our employees, we have already installed more than 80 charging points at the company parking lot.

Not only staff members but also our visitors can use this. A small, yet significant step towards a greener future.

Cargo bikes

Cargo bikes are an innovative solution for green travel in the city. For our technicians, it is certainly a handy means of transport to get to the client in the busy streets of Brussels. Parking is no longer a headache.

In addition to the positive impact on the health of our employees, the use of the cargo bike also reduces congestion and pollution.

Shared Bicycles

In addition to our initiative with cargo bikes, we have also launched a project for shared bicycles. It encourages our employees to use this green alternative for professional travel. Healthier and more sustainable!

Campaign: Together for Zero Accidents

Safety is our absolute priority. That's why we are launching an internal awareness campaign for all our staff, under the motto 'Together for Zero'. This campaign, with 'road safety' as its theme, starts after the Mobility Week.

It includes courses for defensive driving, whether on a bicycle or in a car.

Challenge: To Work without My Car

We are also participating in the challenge www.toworkwithoutmycar.be. An initiative aimed at promoting sustainable mobility solutions.

40% of our staff use public transport

A large number of our employees opt for public transport for their daily travels, and that's great. This way, we help to reduce CO2 emissions together, and we also encourage others to consider sustainable transport alternatives.

Openbaar vervoer

As you can see, at Sibelga we are firmly convinced that every step, no matter how small, is very important in our joint pursuit of a sustainable future. That's why we are also excited about our contribution to Mobility Week.

We are already looking forward to a future where sustainable mobility is the norm, not the exception...
